Cloëtta Prize

Cloëtta Prize

The Professor Dr. Max Cloëtta Foundation awards an annual prize to honour German and international personalities who have made outstanding contributions to specific areas of medical research.

The award winners exemplify the combination of excellent basic research with innovative perspectives for clinical application. Their work makes groundbreaking contributions to the advancement of medicine and the life sciences, and thus to progress in the service of society.

The Foundation Board is responsible for awarding the prize and, if necessary, consults independent external experts to ensure that its decision is well-founded. The prize is endowed with CHF 50,000 and recognises outstanding scientific achievements.

The award ceremony takes place each autumn and not only provides a fitting setting for the award, but also serves as a platform for promoting scientific exchange and networking among researchers.

Professor Dr. Max Cloëtta Foundation Publication Series

Since the Cloëtta Prize was first awarded, a booklet has been published in the Foundation’s series for each award. This brochure provides a comprehensive review of the prize winners, including short biographies, commemorative lectures and scientific articles, as well as information about the Foundation and an overview of previous publications.

The individual publications in the series are available online.

The Golden Book

Since 1974, the Foundation has honoured its award winners in the Golden Book. Its name is no coincidence: the cover is decorated with an image of the gold medal that is presented to the award-winning researchers at the award ceremony. Each award winner receives their own artistically calligraphed page bearing their original signature, thus becoming a permanent part of the foundation’s history.
